Macroom

About a year and a half ago Mom and I were on a bus back to Cork and passed through this town. Since then she has been set on going back and seeing the town. What initially caught her eye were the remains of the castle. So, when we made it back this was a top priority for day trips to take.

Despite being a bit cloudy it turned out to be a great day for walking around Macroom. We started out the day at the visitor's center where we were told about a few walking trails that we could take around town.

The first one was pretty short, but it was beautiful!

What remains of the castle.

This is an abandoned church that we found. It's really sad because a number of the burials here are fairly recent and they look like they are visited often.

Our next walk started on the other side of the bridge.

We quickly discovered that this was a trail that isn't used all that frequently...

The path ran mostly parallel to a river.

SHEEP!

This was the trail we were supposed to be following...it was a challenge, but not impossible.

After our walk we went back to the bridge and took pictures of the castle that initially caught Mom's interest.

Adorable little town.

After we finished walking around we still had some time before our bus back to Cork so we stopped into a cafe at a hotel and got some drinks. Mom of course got hot chocolate :)

Doesn't that look amazing??

Our trip to Macroom was pretty quick, but it was definitely worth it. It was a beautiful place for sure.

On a side note, 3 of the boys that I live with are from Macroom. Small world.
